Fish tank aquarium in modern lobby1/6/2024 Instead of feeling trapped behind their leader, people can be free to try out new ideas and fail forward.Ĭommunication and collaboration become quicker and clearer due to psychological safety.Īnd increases in productivity lead to better performance outcomes and a higher ROI for the company's bottom line. So what does this mean for organizations and the people in them? Instead of forcing teams to push information up so managers can make all the decisions, leaders manage up, giving their teams the chance to develop their own skill set and work towards their career goals. Instead of setting crazy boundaries, leaders allow their teams to explore new options, try new things, and get more CREATIVE with their PROBLEM-SOLVING. Instead of watching over their every move, leaders guide their teams along an action plan, their role is to remind them that the answer LIES WITHIN THEMSELVES. When a leader changes from micromanagement to empowerment, three key shifts take place. Leaders today should be focused on EMPOWERMENT over micromanagement. This is why I agree with Jason Kaplan and what he says in this great graphic. It comes off as uncooperative, and in some cases, ARROGANT. It shows that a leader doesn’t trust their teams, only believes in themselves, and isn’t focused on the development of the people around them. Micromanagement is a leadership liability.
